The NTRA Racing Experience is a traveling exhibit for the National Thoroughbred Racing Association. Housed in a semi-truck trailer, the exhibit visits horse racing events throughout the country. For this exhibit, we created a bank of kiosks to collect information about the people that attend race events. All the kiosks are linked together with the data going into a centralized database.
The attractor loop for this kiosk is an exciting video, shot on film, of track racing action. When the user touches the screen the attractor loop transitions to a series of data collection screens where users enter their personal information and answer a series of questions about their experiences and interest in horse racing. As a reward for their information they are given a free set of mini binoculars and access to the rest of the features on the kiosk:
- What's New — features a message from NTRA Commissioner Tim Smith, a list of recent races and their winners, and upcoming events. Each of these areas is updateable by the administrators of the kiosk.
- Discover History — this section features a photo gallery of exciting recent racing events, and an interactive timeline reliving some of the great moments in thoroughbred racing history.
- Track Listing — a searchable database of horse racing tracks throughout the country. Tracks can be located by state or by name. Each track entry provides information about the track, a phone number, admission fees, and dates for the racing season.
- Games — this kiosk features two custom games: Match Race, a concentration-style matching game, and NTRA Racing Experience Derby a playful, arcade-style game where the player controls a horse as she dodges other horses and leaps over obstacles on the course such as rocks and pools of water in an attempt to get to the finish line and collect the race purse.
