Rombots

The splash screen introduces the world to the Sudoku generator robot. As the game starts, the view pans down the robot's chest to the animated generator.

This game is one of many robot-themed games created for retro robot gaming site rombots.com. Capitalizing on the explosive popularity of the puzzle game Sudoku, this version adds some very interesting features not found in other online Sudoku games. Sudoku (Sue-dough-Koo) is a deceptively simple looking game that can be surprisingly difficult and requires the use of both deductive and inductive reasoning. The object is simple, each row, column and 3x3 area of the 9x9 Sudoku number grid must contain the numbers 1-9. No row, column or 3x3 section may have any number repeated within the same row, column or 3x3 section. Easy, huh? The player must deduce where the numbers fall in the grid by using logic and "givens" — grid squares where the number is already revealed.

While most online Sudoku games use a library of predefined games, The Sudoku Generator actually creates games programmatically on the fly, so each and every game is unique and can range in difficulty from very easy to nearly unsolvable. But the most unique feature of The Sudoku Generator is that it allows users to actually create their own Sudoku puzzles by controlling the amount and placement of givens. Players can also print out the puzzles and play them offline or give them to friends. Each printout contains the game grid and a Black and White version of the robot as well as a fold down panel that shows the solution to the puzzle (just in case the player gets stuck — which for us happens a lot!).
