Web Review Magazine Covers 1995-1998
Here are several examples of the original Web Review design featuring
the antique look with torn paper and parchment background.

Early in 1996, the cover was modified slightly to accomodate HTML rather than graphical story links. The width of the cover image was expanded at this time as well.

A short time later the cover was modified again, this time dropping the parchment background creating a cleaner, less antique look.

On May 17, 1996 Web Review ceased publication citing lack of revenue. Plans were made to convert Web Review's volume of content into a reference archive.

Four months later, on September 26, 1996, Web Review resumed publication after forming a partnership with Miller Freeman, a print magazine publisher that desired the online presence that Web Review offered.

During that summer, Bob and managing editor Richard Koman worked to refocus Web Review from a magazine devoted to general consumer topics, for which there was little audience, to a dedicated reference resource aimed at Web developers for which there was a burgeoning audience who had a voracious appetite for information.

These following graphics are cover images from a transitional redesign of Web Review that bridged the gap between the original, old-fashioned look of the magazine and the sleeker, more modern look to come.

Keep an eye on the eyes...

By the time these last two covers were published, Bob had taken a position at a new company but continued to freelance for Web Review writing and designing the graphics for these stories, among others. The stories and the graphics were designed as companion pieces reviewing two new competing 1.0 software packages from Adobe and Macromedia who, after years of bitter rivalry, later merged to form one company under the Adobe name.
